DDG Samar Word for Rotary Lebanon

DDG Samar Saab’s word for Lebanon’s website:

District Governor Kevork Mahdessian (from Cyprus) sends you his best regards and wishes you a fruitful Rotary Year 2012-13, filled with true Rotarian spirit and Serving with passion!

DG Kevork and myself would like to congratulate Past President, David Zein, for the launching of the Lebanon Website and thank him for his continuous efforts and his dedication to Rotary.

Today, we are to start a new year in the Rotarian era; this era that is built on service, good will and fellowship. Rotary year 2011-2012 witnessed many successful projects and events, from installing water filtration systems to around 200 public schools all over Lebanon, to donating ambulances to the Red Cross in Hazmieh and Zgharta, to the Rotary International President’s Visit in February… And soon, in 2013-14, we will have a New District 2452 in which we will lead eight other countries, since our District Governor Elect, Jamil Mouawad, is Lebanese. It will be every Rotarian’s responsibility to make it a unique one.
Rotary is about service, cooperation to reach world understanding and peace. By helping others, even in the simplest ways, we could help to build peace.

"PEACE THROUGH SERVICE", which is a fitting title for our present days, will be Rotary’s motto for the Rotary Year 2012-13. So, let us all search for
Peace within ourselves,
Peace within our families,
Peace within our members ,
Peace within our Clubs,
Peace within Clubs of the Districts,
Peace in our Communities, and,
Peace amongst people of the World.
All the projects & activities we do through our Clubs, contribute towards world peace and understanding:
-    the eradicating of Polio from the world (Rotary has been working on this humanitarian project since 1985 and will continue to work till the last 3 countries are free of Polio.)
-    the fight against poverty,
-    co-operation  between Clubs in different Districts, and
-    the Rotary Foundation programs, are all intended, ultimately, to promote world peace.

Rotary will focus on six areas in the coming years:

Peace and conflict prevention/resolution.
Disease prevention and treatment.
Water and sanitation.
Maternal and child health.
Basic education and literacy, and,
Economic and community development.
All the above, along with promoting what Rotary is and does, all over our District, will show our society that Rotary is indeed a true meaning of Service Above Self!
